ANDES — The venerable Andes Hotel, which traces its origins to 1850, has new ownership as Derek Curl completed purchase of the property in late July 2020.
Sally and Ed O’Neill, bought the business 20 years ago and implemented many changes in the operation. The property includes a spacious dining room, a popular tavern and 10 ranch-style motel rooms.
Commenting on behalf of the new owner, spokesperson Lisa Wisely said, “The Andes Hotel will be opening very much in line with the existing establishment. We have offered jobs to all the existing staff who have been out of their positions there since the hotel closed in March with the New York State mandate/stay at home orders.”
She said the tavern will remain exactly the same although plans call for having all operations, including the kitchen, be outdoors for the remainder of summer and fall.
This will also allow time to address any imperative renovations needed in the building and also to have as many people as possible experience the new Andes Hotel by having picnic tables and tents outdoors, following all state protocols on distance and safety.
“We plan on opening within two days of the liquor license coming through, we are in the application process now. The hotel just changed hands last week,” Lisa explained. “As of right now, we will not be taking any new room reservations, we really want to focus on getting the tavern and the kitchen up with a new updated menu.”
She recommend that anyone interested in the project follow the Facebook page and Instagram page and keep an eye on andeshotel.com website for updates on a confirmed opening date.
